Tales of an Online Language Teacher

In September 2010, I had just finished my first year as an ELT trainer in Turkey. I reflected on what had been an incredible year and and arrived at two conclusions. Firstly, ELT is an incredible sector with stacks of potential both in training and product development. Secondly, and most prominently, that I felt incredibly overworked and drastically underpaid.

With this in mind, I wanted to go it alone. During a Skype call home to my family, I was amazed at how good the quality was and came up with the idea of teaching English online directly to students. The advantages were instantly recognisable.

1. zero travelling costs for both teacher and student.
2. tailor-made learning from the comfort of your own home.
3. cutting out the middle thus charging a much higher rate.
4. one initial overhead: the cost of your monthly internet bill.

So in  2011, I set up Online English Tuition, a company dedicated to teaching English to clients around the world. To date, I am incredibly proud. I have boosted my self confidence, earned some really good money and best of all, met some fantastic people, from brain surgeons to rock stars!

I would now love to share my insights with you and will regularly post my experiences. Follow me on Twitter or on Facebook to receive notifications of updates. If you any questions along the way, I’ll be happy to answer them 🙂
